Hello friends! Today I am excited to share with you something I am truly passionate about,
C H R I S T M A S O R N A M E N T S
This is coming from the girl who put her Christmas trees up right after Halloween. It's serious. I like making a few of my own ornaments because I'm nostalgic and it's fun. Each year I host an ornament decorating party for friends and small groups that I'm a part of. Last year I hosted 2 different ornament making parties - seriously, my love for ornaments is out of control.
The easiest thing to do is purchase the wooden and cardboard ornaments from Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I wish I had a picture to show you! They are inexpensive and actually really cute! Each person paints and or glitters (you know I'm all about that glitter) their ornament(s) to her own taste. This method ensures that everyone will walk out with a cute ornament to their style and doesn't have to have cute handwriting.
Your Ornament Decorating Party can be as big or small as you like. If it's a smaller group, I typically get enough for each person to have 2 ornaments. If it's a bigger group, they only get 1.
Here's what you need to do to prep for your party!
1. Advertise it.
Even if you decide to do it on a whim, you can whip up a fun picture to throw in a group text. This is what I used last year.
Nothing glamorous, just a picture of my tree and presents and text from a photo editing app (my faves - ABeautifulMess and OVER) .
Snacks are a must. Make something simple, easy, and delicious like this jalapeno popper dip or some festive sugar cookies! Don't forget about hot chocolate! You can make it in a crock pot and it is heavenly. There are so many recipes out there for it. Just do a quick Pinterest search and find one that speaks to you. Do the same for homemade whipped cream to dollop on top! Trust me. It's better than marshmallows.
Bonus- get cute plates and cups! Every little detail makes the night more special. You can find cute plates, cups, and napkins at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Target. I don't have a favorite. I love all of them!
Here is a list of supplies that you'll need:
- Wooden or Cardboard Ornaments -- they have some really cute geometric ones that I LOVE
- Craft Paint - Make sure to get the traditional red, green, gold, and silver, but then also gather other fun colors like pinks and blues. Get crazy and go neon!
- Paint brushes - you can get the cheap packs
- Plates + Bowls for paint and water
- Paper Towels
- Glitter! - gold, silver, green, red, go crazy
- Modge Podge - for the glitter
- Cardboard or old newspaper to protect surfaces
Instructions from here on out are straightforward. Let the girls paint and glitter to their hearts content. Make sure to make some for yourself so you can have it on your tree and remember the fun times!
4. Take Pictures or have someone taking pictures
My hands were all covered in glitter and glue, so I've never taken a ton of pictures at my parties; although I wish I had! Ask someone who you know doesn't do crafts or isn't "crafty" to take the pictures. It's a good way to get them involved!
