My First Week

When I first accepted my position as girls minister, I had the amazing privilege of having a full week between my previous job and beginning my job at the church. I spent time every day praying for how God would have me shepherd the girls, parents, and leaders. I bought a journal and I asked God what I was supposed to do.

You know one of the amazing things about seeking Christ…He answers. I journaled that I wanted the students to:

  • Know and love God
  • Be connected to each other in fellowship
  • Be discipled by their parents and leaders
  • Disciple others
  • Serve

Great! Oh, wait. How?!

Through prayer, reading the Bible and reading some great books on student ministry I was reminded that Christ teaches us and uses others to equip us to to disciple, lead and love.

Notice I didn’t say "I knew everything." I might not have known evertyhing, but I was equipped. Hebrews 13:20-21 reminds:

"Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."

He equips us with everything good. He gives us the Holy Spirit. He gives us great people who have discipled students and are discipling students. He gives us His word. Get a journal. Pray, read, pray, and read with your journal open and pen ready. My open journal and pen in hand made me excited knowing God had called me to a certain people for a certain time! - Amy
