Hi! Welcome to our blog! We are so glad that you've landed here. You may be thinking "why did you decide to name your blog The Perch?" Let me tell you!
A perch is a resting place. We desire that looking at this blog will be a restful spot in your day. We hope it will cause you to persevere, connect you with other people doing what you do, and anchor you in the hope we have in Christ and in His plans.
A perch is also a high or elevated position. We hope you can come and get a higher perspective and an elevated vision for yourself and for your girls. We can be weary from a hard season, drained from a difficult team member, overwhelmed with a new role, or excited because we are about to launch something…and the list never ends. Our prayer is that we would all be sharpened to have a renewed mind and heart to make disciples and love people. We are better together!
So who is The Perch for?
I (Amy) served on a church staff as girls minister and Becca is currently a girls minister. Your primary role is discipleship, and you are also to equip the believers to serve. I used to joke that my job description included every female who stepped into our building. Truthfully you pour into many different ages and needs. We are writing to equip and bless you in this unique role. You are a disciple maker.
Volunteers / Small Group Leaders
We have also been blessed with opportunities to travel and train leaders and teach girls. Most churches do not have a girls minister. I will never forget a conversation I had with a godly mom in Indiana a few years ago. She cried telling me they do not have a youth leader. They simply have a 20 year old who teaches on Wednesdays, doesn’t know the students’ names and doesn’t attend on Sundays. She leads them on Sundays and has them over to her house every Friday. She didn’t have a staff position but she did life with and discipled students as well or better than some people I know with “official titles.”
We are writing to equip you. You are not “just” a volunteer or “simply” a small group leader. You are a disciple maker.
We both have very close relationships with our wonderful, godly parents and we believe that parents are the primary disciple makers. We believe that it takes a church to raise a child, and the parents are the primary source of training in the home for their children. We value training parents and partnering with them to disciple students. We want to point you to resources and godly parents we trust and learn from. You are a disciple maker.
Hey girl hey. We pray that you would be awakened to walk with Christ right now. Living for the kingdom doesn’t happen after you’re a college graduate, married, or with kids. Your calling is not somewhere floating in the future. The same power that conquered the grave lives in you now. You are a disciple maker.
We pray that we would all be mutually encouraged and equipped to trust and obey Christ in your home, in your church and in the world for the glory of God. - Amy
We desire for this to not just be a blog, but a community and network for everyone involved in girls ministry all over the country. We'd love for you to drop us a comment, say hello, and get to know us a little better!
